I have seen Wolf Eels before but they didn't look like yours. The one I saw in California was white/gray with black spots. It's head looked different too. Like an old man or something.
Yes, this one is a young one, they start tiny gunnel size... they grow old and grey (purple if female) with time. This one is an adolescent :) She still has her baby colors including the yellow tail, but is starting to purple/grey out. The tiny ones are vivid orange and maroon :) I've 'raised' one from about 8 or 10 inches to the size of this one before (took a couple years and hundreds of dives) I fed her scallops and she'd follow me around like a wolfie-puppy :)
